- Abstract
- Public libraries are well positioned to supply a wide range of health and wellness information for families and individuals. Designing and implementing health and wellness resources, programming and services at public libraries involves offering healthy lifestyle options and opportunities for collaboration with community members. Guiding patrons to health information while maintaining ethical boundaries, public librarians must develop an awareness of how to serve the needs related to consumer health inquires. Due to social, personal, and economic factors and the vast amount of health information available, it is vital that health and wellness information in public libraries be expanded to include complementary and alternative medicine. The purpose of the CAM toolkit is to assist people in developing skills and opportunities for care represented in these areas. It serves as a central access point to resources useful for self-directed, lifelong natural living that supports health and vitality.
