Abstract

The walnut forest in the Arboretum of UIUC was developed by Joseph C. McDaniel who was an assistant professor of Horticulture at UIUC. He did research about making selections of the walnut as a fruit plant and an ornamental plant in the middle of 20th century. Most of the trees have over 60 years’ history. The department of the Arboretum of UIUC is trying to collect the plants selected by Joseph C. McDaniel as many as they can. Since the wild weeds grows rapidly, it is not easy to gain access for people go into the forest. And I choose the Forest site to do my design which is about a path in memory of Joseph C. McDaniel. Meanwhile, let people engage into the place to know the history story about this forest and also enjoy the beautiful space.
