- Abstract
- Look around you; we live in a world of straight lines and rectangular grids. As an engineer, I see things with 4 perpendicular edges easy to stack and build. Yet, one master makes fascinating structures without straight lines—nature herself. Look at the people, the pets, the plants around you; we are made of curves. This makes it interesting that some neuronal cells are remarkably straight. Our team discovered that the straightness is because of a self-maintained tension, much like the straightness of guitar strings. This image is a representation that neurons would straighten themselves (right) when bend (left), but more, it symbolizes my passion to study the structures of nature (curves) using engineering tools (lines).
