- Abstract
- As an artist I am specifically interested in confronting the states of tension that exist between the body and identity, as well as physicality, representation, and sensitivities of masculinity. Through intense confrontations of materials, process, and form, my work encounters the wear and tear of these symbiotic engagements. Through sculpture and installation, my work exploits the shifting circumstances of this personal and public performance, resulting in the physicality and sexuality of these fragmented relationships. What emerges from these engagements is an intimate and revealing look at the construction of masculine identity, the agency of adornment, and the exhausted body in which it occupies. Invested in gestures, portraiture, and the figure, these portraits are caught between a unique moment of aggression, fulfillment and the romance of personal narrative. By adorning this sensibility, a bravado is built up and broken down, and a new form to gaze upon emerges. What remains are gestures, fractured function, and a desire for conclusion and the symbiotic relationship that confronts the representations of angels that fail again and again.
