- Abstract
- This study uses a semi-theoretical steady state computer simulation of an automotive air conditioning system to evaluate design options. The simulation has been validated with experimental data. Influence coefficients are used to combine energy and cost data to provide a reasonable basis for comparison. Influence coefficients are provided for evaluating seven different design changes. Four of these are used in an example which illustrates the use of influence coefficients in making design choices. For the system modeled it is found that enhancing the internal surface of the condenser coil is the best option for increasing capacity, increasing efficiency and decreasing head pressure. The other three design changes included in the example were increasing the condenser length, evaporator length and compressor displacement.
