Abstract
In this position paper, we discuss the role of abstraction in designing for appropriation. We examine the ways in which varying the level of abstraction of tools affects the ability of users to appropriate them. We close with some words about the difficulties of evaluating the appropriability of systems and how they might be addressed in an experimental framework.
