Abstract
When it comes to transportation at the University of Illinois, there are many options for getting from point A to point B. The options include the transit system, cars, bicycles, mopeds/motorcycles, and more. The purpose of this research project was to find the factors that that influence a student’s decisions when choosing how to travel throughout campus. Throughout our research we were able to analyze the behaviors of students and why they chose what they chose. We began our research with a number of initial hypotheses, only to find that about half of them were supported by the evidence. We utilized focus groups, an online survey, an interview and literary sources to gather information that helped us to reach multiple conclusions. Additionally, we interviewed a member of the Transportation Department on campus. We found that students primarily preferred to walk. We also found the main factors as to why students did not use public transportation, which did not fit the hypotheses we initially made. There were quite a few surprising facts throughout the research process, but overall, we believe that we have gathered sufficient data to support our original hypothesis.
