- Abstract
- As a dance artist, my current research lies in creating work that brings the audience into the performance in an active, collaborative manner. Above is a picture from a rehearsal of my current artistic work, titled Stories of Our Times. The piece centers around how we take in news and information, and why we need to know more than the stories that we are given by major news organizations. The artistic ideas of the work center around the concept known as audience intervention, where the actions of the audience directly affect the manner in which they perceive the art they are experiencing. My end goal with my research is to be able to change the expectations that an audience goes into the theatre with. To bring about collaborative moments in my work that all can benefit from, where the knowledge of artist is challenged just as much as the minds of the audience. I hope through this endeavor to, in some small way, help create a more collaborative, open world, where people actively seek out and engage with those in different fields and professions in ways beneficial to all. It is a lofty goal, but it is my goal. For more information about the Image of Research--Undergraduate Edition go to: http://go.library.illinois.edu/imageofresearch_uredition
