- Abstract
- As an artist and metalsmith, I strive to integrate both traditional metalsmithing and modern technology and materials such as 3D printing and scanning to create pieces to interact with and adorn the body. The pieces pictured are among many waiting assembly. One of the pictured pieces is a 3D scanned and printed fox skull, the original skull is an artifact belonging to a museum collection, it was one of many that I helped 3D scan so that future generations may enjoy it. This idea is one that I am drawn to. The idea of taking an original copy and distorting it in some way; while the original lives on, the form can also exist in a new way and take on new depth and meaning. I embrace the fragmented and distorted forms, the failed prints, and the spontaneity in my work; often revealing glimpses of the underlying print lines or interiors. They grow from a broken, fictional reality; reminiscent of fleshy biology, soft pinks and amorphous forms waiting to become something beyond the original.
