Abstract

The College of Veterinary Medicine has a strict policy on taking photos of animals, so I took this selfie while waiting for a group of calves to be herded into the handling facility where we were working. I was volunteering for a vaccination blitz that involved giving routine shots to more than 500 calves over two very cold December days. These animals are housed at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Station in Southern Illinois and, while they are not part of my own personal research, the calves will be used for years to come in various trials done by both the College of Veterinary Medicine and the Animal Sciences Department in the College of ACES. This picture shows that, no matter how cold it is, researchers are out in the elements learning from and caring for the animals that nourish us.
