- Abstract
- Feline injection site-associated sarcoma is a highly invasive cancer affecting cats that have received vaccines for preventable diseases. Surgery to remove this cancer must be aggressive, and often requires radical removal of tissue or amputation. Unfortunately, most cats succumb to recurrent disease despite treatment. My study aims at preventing tumor re-growth by implantation of Plaster of Paris beads impregnated with chemotherapy to inhibit growth of cancer cells following radical tumor removal. As research on this tumor has plateaued in recent years with little new information available, it is critically important that a treatment be investigated that is inexpensive, effective in preventing recurrence of tumor growth, and minimally invasive in treating recurrent disease.
