Abstract
"The study provides children's interpretations of the political campaign, discussions on the impact of children's interpretation of the televised political content and the implications of family communication patterns on political socialization. This dissertation also shows that the accepted notion of political socialization is inadequate due to its narrowness. The data gathered in this study confirm that factors such as: social class, level of education, media, peers and family interact to provide children with the minimal information they need to enter the political realm. However, this process should be looked at with a broader vision, ascribing to children the capacities they have not only to ""absorb"" information from media, parents, school and peers, but as to how they actively evaluate, negotiate or deal with the political realm in which they live."
