Abstract
The significance of this study is its explication of culturally grounded beliefs and practices related to child well-being, which give voice to maltreated children as well as frontline workers. By conducting research in Japan that examines Ibasho for maltreated children who lived in state care, I demonstrate that social work research conducted in a non-Western country can contribute to the expansion of the knowledge base of American social work. This study has implications for social work practice and policy in supporting the well-being of maltreated children both in the U.S. and Japan.
