Abstract
In this thesis, we introduce a new way to construct the Taylor tower of a (homotopy, reduced and finite degree) functor F from spectra to spectra. As a result, the notion of Tate obstructions as defined by Randy McCarthy is studied and generalized to the notion of higher order obstructions. These obstructions, which can be read off from the Taylor cotower of the homogeneous pieces of a functor F, reflect the complexity of building the Taylor tower of F. We also give some examples and a model for higher obstructions.
