Abstract
Bees were assayed in the lab for flight and metabolic capacity. The CA- group had significantly fewer flightworthy bees and significantly lower metabolic capacity than control groups. MCA- bees were intermediate and not significantly different than the CA- or control groups. These results are consistent with the hypothesis that the absence of the corpora allata inhibits the development of sufficient metabolic capacity to fly. Taken together, my experiments suggest that JH may have physiological effects that influence behavioral development.
