Abstract
One independent variable with three levels (use of visual advance organizer, use of written title advance organizer and absence of advance organizer) and seven dependent variables (scores on four different measures for dictation performance and three different measures for recall performance) were considered. Subjects consisted of 129 college students in third-semester French 103 courses combined into a pool of subjects. Results did not show significance--students with advance organizers, either a picture or title, did not score significantly better than students without an advance organizer. Also included in the study is a brief qualitative evaluation of student responses in the dictation task and the recall task.
