Abstract
A hydraulic system was setup to generate a laminar flow in a cylinder tube. The flow is measured by the VPTV system for the purpose of demonstration. Fluorescent particles were employed to trace the fluid motion. An argon-iron laser was employed as the illumination system. The tube is immersed in a water tank to compensate for the light refraction occurring at the tube boundary. A method was proposed to compensate for the light refraction at the tank boundary. Particle trajectories were reconstructed from the experiment. The velocity was calculated. The errors are quantitatively discussed.
