Abstract
The dissertation is divided into six chapters---Biography and Introduction; A Brief Look at the Poetry Set; Melody and Harmony; Text Setting and Rhythm; Texture, Accompaniment, and Form; and the Conclusion. In Chapters Three, Four and Five, salient features of all five works are examined to look for consistencies of style and technique. Since pieces from different years are employed, changes in style from the early to the later works are also traced.
