Abstract
Newspaper articles, school yearbooks, music periodicals, personal communications, and other documents found in schools, pubic libraries, and other archives throughout Illinois were used as source material for this study. Information includes the histories of individual school bands, the origin and influence of the Illinois School Band Association on the band movement, and conclusions relating practices and traditions of early bands to those in contemporary education.
