Abstract
The themes and ideas explored here are drawn from initial observations of three events at the Wall to Wall Guitar Festival at the Krannert Center for the Performing Arts. Two particular ideas stand out in my collections of field notes. The first is an interest in the various ways that audience members choose to engage the performances. The second pertains to how performance environments provide cues to expected social interactions between audience members and artists.
In order to provide context, I begin with a brief description of the three events. This is followed by a presentation of each theme, with examples drawn from field notes and discussions of resulting conceptualizations.
