Abstract
My thesis is that women value sterilization because it resolves a series of everyday conflicts surrounding productive/reproductive labor, sex/gender relations, and their bodies. This study contributes to understanding high rates of female surgical sterilization in Brazil by showing how women are invested in the current contraceptive regime and by highlighting the social context that hinders women's use of reversible methods.
