Abstract
Greenhouse studies were conducted to evaluate several soybean lines and cultivars for resistance to R. solani and to determine the inheritance of resistance. Ninety ancestral lines and 700 current cultivars were evaluated. Most of the lines and cultivars evaluated were susceptible, however, 21 of the ancestral lines and 20 of the current cultivars were determined to be moderately resistant. Of the 21 ancestral lines, CNS, Mandarin (Ottawa), and Jackson are in the pedigree of cultivars previously reported as being moderately resistant to R. solani. The soybean cultivar Savoy was also found to be moderately resistant, and the cultivar Jack was found to be susceptible. Progeny from a cross between Jack and Savoy were evaluated for resistance. Reactions to R. solani in segregating F 2 and F3 generations indicate that resistance is a multigenic trait.
