Abstract
In the first study, we demonstrated that low dose dietary genistein negated the inhibitory effect of tamoxifen on mammary tumor growth. Although high dose genistein did not show the same effect, high tumor prevalence was observed. In the second study, dietary genistein was shown to promote breast cancer metastasis to lungs in athymic mice. The results from these studies suggest that the consumption of dietary supplements containing genistein may not be safe to breast cancer survivors. In our third study, we evaluated three metastasis models using different injection sites. We have successfully developed animal models that can produce a proper level of distant metastasis. These preclinical animal models will allow us to conduct further research to investigate the impact of soy isoflavones on breast cancer metastasis in the future.
