Abstract
The final section finds continuity in the survival of popular religious practices, particularly those associated with the sacred landscape. Chapters examine the audience for saints' cults, pilgrimage sites, and holy wells. In conclusion, the impact and changing nature of religious violence in the west is addressed, from destruction of religious property in clan warfare to its development as an expression of cultural and theological differences between Protestants and Catholics.
