Abstract
The three main chapters in this dissertation are related with one another through the idea of demand dependencies. Chapter 2 models extended warranty design in a supply chain setting, where the extended warranty demand is dependent on the primary product demand. Clearly, only the consumers who buy the product are potential candidates for purchasing the extended warranty. Thus, the maximum demand for the extended warranty is restricted by the product demand. Chapter 3 studies the interactions between brand reputation, warranties, and product quality in both one-period and two-period models in a centralized system. Demand dependency appears in the second-period demand, which is determined not only by decisions made in the second period, but also by those in the first period. Chapter 4 explores two business models in the computer-based industries, the integrated model and the non-integrated model. The product demand is dependent on model choices.
