Abstract
"Dendrimers also have been shown to behave as unimolecular micelles and nanocontainers. However, the capacity of the dendrimers for guest solubilization is limited. Thus, the generatinn of novel, water soluble dendrimers as potential nanocontainers with larger capacities is desired. It was hoped that the development of water soluble, cored dendrimers could improve dendrimer capacity by increasing the ""cavities"" within the dendrimer by core removal. In addition, a water soluble cored dendrimer could have applications in molecular imprinting for the development of water soluble receptors. Efforts toward the synthesis of water soluble cored dendrimers and initial studies probing the potential capacity of such dendrimers for hydrophobic guests will be presented."
