Abstract
In order to increase our understanding of the relationship between the gadolinium chelate's chemical structure and its effectiveness as a MRI contrast agent, we have prepared and studied a number of chelates with ranging characteristics. We have found that the metal-ligand binding of chelates is important in determining the ZFS and tauv. We also investigated the role of the cage rigidity of the chelate, and studied its effect on tauv. Finally, we hope that our study can stimulate synthesis 'Smart Contrast Agents' that utilizes the changes in electron relaxation rate upon changes in structure.
