Abstract
Analogous to molecular imprinted polymers, cored dendrimers were imprinted by synthesizing the structure in the presence of a template (core unit). Porphyrins were found to be useful target compounds for which to imprint cored dendrimers. The porphyrins were used as spectrophotometric probes to determine the selectivity of the cored dendrimer. Binding studies with various functionalized porphyrins and the cored dendrimer were monitored by UV/Vis spectroscopy. The results showed that these cored dendrimers were selective for porphyrins complementary in both shape and functionality to the binding site created in their interior. The binding behavior of these cored dendrimers was found to be sensitive to the conditions used for the cross-linking reaction.
