Abstract
What is being advocated throughout this thesis is the development of two or three DOF units that have different types of freedoms. These units, used in conjunction to form serial-parallel hybrid schemes, offer the possibility of shaping the machine's stiffness/workspace/accuracy characteristics to suit desired regimes of operation.
