Abstract
A novel chiral oligomer synthesized in our group gave rise to interesting phase behavior, including the formation of a colorless, second order optically active phase and a blue phase as well. The optically active phase was shown to spontaneously form a very large total stored charge density upon crystallization as demonstrated by thermally stimulated discharge experiments. The material gave rise to an impressively large second-order susceptibility despite being a colorless material. Optical performance was shown to improve 25% through AC/thermal annealing processing techniques.
