Abstract
Experiments 6, 7, and 8 investigated what additional information 9-month-olds use to distinguish between movable and immovable objects. The results from these experiments revealed that 9-month-olds attended to both verticality and object width. Furthermore, with the addition of width, verticality was elaborated to take width into account. Thus, for 9-month-olds: (1) objects that were wide were perceived as immovable; (2) objects that had a salient vertical dimension and were very narrow were perceived as immovable; and (3) all others were perceived as movable.
