Abstract
In order to speedily deploy these new multicast services, this dissertation promotes the idea of a virtual overlay architecture, which provides a common framework for both IRMA and MHPF. In this framework, a virtual network of specialized multicast servers, i.e. IRMA servers or MHPF servers, is overlayed on top of the standard IP multicast infrastructure. Using this architecture, MHPF can be incrementally deployed over the wide area on the Internet.
