Abstract
In summary, this dissertation makes contributions to networking research along two orthogonal dimensions. First, it presents a scalable and extensible architectural framework for designing active routers. Second, it develops a library of value-added mechanisms for critical components of the resource arbitration framework in the active router, thereby enabling a service provider to compose the set of services appropriate to its customers to deliver superior performance.
