Abstract
"Chapter 4, ""Felicia Hemans and the Question of Redemption,"" examines Hemans' poems about Indian belief systems. In a variety of spiritual scenarios, some of which promise salvation while others contemplate damnation, Hemans wrestles with her own concerns about faith and an afterlife through her dramatizations of Indian characters and the Christian Anglos who interact with them."
