Abstract
Within this work, we first provide a tutorial to basic temporal CDMA receiver designs. Improved temporal interference cancellation techniques are then developed using a direct measure of bit estimate reliability in the cancellation stage. We then investigate several techniques for integrating multiple element antennas with temporal processing. We show that spatial techniques that suppress multiple-access interference originating from adjacent cells will increase the potential for capacity improvement of temporal interference cancellation and will also validate the white Gaussian noise approximation that was assumed in our new temporal algorithms. These temporal methods are easily extended to more general joint spatial-temporal signal models, but are likely to be more robust in separable spatial-temporal processing when spatial processing can whiten strong multiple-access interference originating from adjacent cells.
