Abstract
The total cross section of the reaction pp→LS0+c. c. at ten momentum values within 2.5 MeV of threshold was measured using the Low Energy Antiproton Ring (LEAR) at CERN. The cross section was normalized against the similar reaction pp→LL and a novel background estimation using below-threshold data was performed. Because of these techniques, the results are insensitive to the detector acceptance, and are essentially free of systematic errors, provided they are kept as a ratio to the cross section of pp→LL at the same incident antiproton momentum. The differential cross section could not be measured reliably, due to the proximity to threshold.
