Recommendations include: formalized training of GED instructors to establish positive supportive relationships with returning students; greater attention to earlier traumatic or stressful experiences that continue to influence student behavior; and development of more comprehensive programs and teaching strategies that address the psychological and social challenges of the students to better prepare them for work.
