Abstract
Direct transfer of training was the best evidence of effective functioning of the training system of this study. But the training system was less effective in facilitating the indirect transfer of the core aspects of training by entrepreneurs. There should be follow-up visits to the field by all the trainers to check on whether the trainees have transferred training to their jobs and to their employees. The study proposed the use of the Direct and Indirect Training Transfer Model to evaluate the trainees' post-training performance by testing their skills, observing their performance back on the job or obtaining feedback from employees. Future research on the training system of the informal sector should try to determine why the current system is not working effectively and how it can be made to work more effectively.
