Abstract
In the analytic measurement of the field-specific essays by ESL TAs and field TAs, the FACETS analysis found that in general ESL raters were more lenient than field TAs. Only the life sciences TAs' grading was compatible to that of the ESL TAs in terms of rating severity. Raters' survey analysis also revealed that ESL raters were quite different from field TAs in their perception of rating difficulty and ranking of important components affecting their holistic decision for the field-specific essays. This study further addresses various limitations and problems emerging from construction and administration of the field-specific test, and ESL TAs' grading of the field-specific essays.
