Abstract
I have chosen black feminist thought and critical race theory as the theoretical foundation of this work because they complement the lenses through which I see the world. Black feminist thought is important because it deals with the intersectionality of race, class and gender. Critical race theory focuses on race, but also describes the importance of the use of narrative. Narrative is important in this research because the core of this research focuses on the voices of instructional aides. Critical Race Theory is also grounded in social struggle; these narratives exemplify the struggle that continues for women and people of color. The use of these theories allows one to fetter out, when necessary, race, class and gender and talk about multiple positioned people.
