Abstract
Isolating different waveforms in today's crowded and dynamic wireless spectrum requires adaptable communication systems. The key challenge in developing RF modules is to reduce the size and weight while satisfying multiple frequency band coverage and good RF performance. We investigate the optimization steps of a wireless RF module and produce an outline to build a frequency-tunable band-pass filter. The research of this thesis consists of delving into various methodologies to construct the optimal circuitry in size and frequency response, considering a number of trade-offs that are present in a microwave network design. The first step is to determine the matching network that is best suited to the given task. Various designs for the matching network are constructed and plotted to select the optimal trade-off between the pass-band ripple and bandwidth. The filter itself is then constructed by again determining the best design suitable for our purposes. The research culminates in a design proposal for a frequency-tunable band-pass filter that requires meticulous evaluation of the design parameters covered up to date. The end result of each step will be fabricated and measurements will be compared to the theoretical findings to determine the accuracy of the design.
