Abstract
The project proposes to lay the groundwork for documenting and disseminating the history of world music recording that began in the Midwest, connected to audio histories elsewhere in the world, and then circulated back to the Midwest as a series of commercially available recorded performances for newly arrived immigrant populations; this cross-national give-and-take can be traced from the late nineteenth century to the contemporary, global digital age.
