- Abstract
- This project will look into the interest of improving urban youth education. Extension works to Help Others Learn to Grow and youth education has a lot to do with the programming they provide to individual educators as well as event coordinators. This projects aims to find out why Master Gardeners invest so much time and effort into the program, as well as find what they get out of it. Extension will be able to use this data to advertise the program and the success of their Master Gardeners, as well as encourage others to participate in horticultural education. The results of this research will benefit University of Illinois and Cook County Extension and the Master Gardener Program. This study examines the current resources available to and the needs of Master Gardeners. It considers the motivation behind volunteering, preparedness behind education, curriculum analysis, as well as the benefits and challenges of having a position as a Master Gardener Youth Educator.
