Abstract
"Williram's von Ebersberg ""Expositio in Cantica Canticorum,"" is an important, though somewhat neglected, early Middle High German manuscript, containing commentaries in poetic Latin and prose German. As a literary text, it provides in encapsulated form a fairly comprehensive overview of the medieval 'Weltanschaung'. Its linguistic value is also great since the German prose text is a valuable source of information for the East Franconian dialect of early Middle High German. Furthermore, the numerous copies which have come down to us attest to the manuscript's former popularity. This dissertation provides a literary edition of the manuscript, a translation of the entire text, and forward and backward concordances of the German text, all of which are designed to aid the scholar in the research of this manuscript."
