Abstract
In an experiment at Brookhaven National Laboratory we have searched for neutrino oscillations of the type $\nu\sb\mu \to \nu\sb{e}$. The detector is 1 kilometer from the proton target and was exposed to a narrow band beam with peak energies of 1.25 and 1.45 GeV. We observe 54 electron events with a background of 31.6 $\pm$ 5.6 $\pm$ 4.4. The observed excess of electron events is consistent with oscillations at the level 1.8 $\pm$.8 $\pm$.4%.
