- Abstract
- Moving applications for big data to the cloud is becoming increasingly important for scientific computing. Using the power of cloud computing, large jobs can be run in parallel across a computing cluster. With the large amounts of data at hand, it can be difficult to download and process data locally. Moving data-intensive applications to the cloud does not put strain on local computing resources and simplifies the deployment process. Linux container technologies such as Docker make it easy for developers to deploy and scale their applications on the cloud. If a computing job is to be processed on multiple nodes, Docker containers pose little memory overhead as compared to standard virtual machines. Deploying applications on the cloud infrastructure using Docker is a portable and robust way of processing large amounts of data.
