- Abstract
- I traveled to Laos in November 2014 to assist in a human origins excavation at a relatively new cave site in Northern Laos. My research interests focus on how early modern humans exploited natural resources as well as how they were physically affected by their environment and by competition for resources. During my time in Laos I saw an unbelievable abundance of varied terrain as well as an incredible amount of freely growing food in the jungle. This plethora of resources undoubtedly affected how early modern humans grew, evolved, and dispersed, and even today the people of Laos maintain a very close relationship with their environments. What I did not expect to find was that this lush environment is not only practical for comfortable subsistence, but is also at times unbelievably beautiful. This particular image is of the Kuang Si Falls located near the UNESCO World Heritage city, Luang Prabang.
