Abstract
As part of the expansion plans for Jake Wolf Fish Hatchery in Mason County, the well field that supplies its process and drinking water was tested and evaluated. Step tests were conducted on each of the eight production wells in order to assess their hydraulic condition and determine whether or not deterioration had occurred in the years since they were constructed. Weekly water-level measurements were also made in newly constructed observation wells in order to estimate natural recharge to the aquifer and to evaluate the impact of the well field on the regional ground-water resource. The wells were found to be pumping near capacity, and the current well field is not considered capable of producing significantly greater quantities of water. Recommendations include the addition of two and possibly three new wells located approximately two miles south of the existing well field.
