Abstract
The purpose of the project is to expand the current bassoon baroque repertoire by creating a transcription from the chosen sonatas of Barrière’s Sonates pour le violoncelle avec la Basse Continüe. Related topics include: 1) the life and music of Jean-Baptiste Barrière, with an emphasis on the musical characteristics in his Livre II, 2) the development history of the bassoon, and 3) relevant issues of historical performance practice, including tempo, ornamentation, rhythm, articulation, and harmonic figuration.
