- Abstract
- Solar energy, while ubiquitous, is also intermittent. In order to capitalize on its full potential, much research has been done toward its conversion into chemical energy (fuel) in the form of hydrogen gas. Our work focuses on the theoretical study and design of small molecular electrocatalysts, which can be attached to fuel cells, that catalyze the production of hydrogen. These complexes, while small and out of sight, play a large role in the generation, storage, and delivery of energy derived from the sun. This image shows how our work, while seemingly narrow, can be viewed in a global context; it shows how a global problem can be picked apartin breadth, size, and scopein order arrive at a solution.
